OFAH/OPG Travelling TackleShare is coming to Belwood

INVITATION TO ALL MEDIA

Fishing gear on loan to young anglers at Belwood Lake Conservation Area

Aspiring young anglers who would like to try fishing but aren’t sure how to get started or don’t have the gear, can head to Fergus this Saturday, May 2 for a free event. The OFAH/OPG Travelling TackleShare program will join the Grand River Conservation Authority organizers for their annual Take A Kid Fishing Day.

The crew will have everything young anglers need to cast out a line, including rods, reels, tackle and bait. The OFAH/OPG TackleShare team will also have an interactive educational display, which includes introductory fishing instruction information on invasive species, and lessons on aquatic habitat and conservation. Visit www.tackleshare.com for details.

Travelling TackleShare is an initiative of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) and is proudly sponsored by Ontario Power Generation (OPG).

Media are invited to attend this weekend event that will feature great photo and video opportunities of youth learning to fish for the first time, guided by qualified instructors.

When and where?
Saturday, May 2 running 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.)
Belwood Lake Conservation Area, Wellington County Road 18, 4km east of Fergus, ON.

The OFAH runs two lending programs: TackleShare, which loans gear from over 140 loaner sites across Ontario, and Travelling TackleShare, which brings fishing gear to a variety of events in different locations during the summer. Both programs are designed to break down the barriers that keep new and young anglers from getting out on the water, and to help youth experience the fun and challenge of fishing. Both programs are proudly sponsored by OPG.

OPG generates more than half of the electricity Ontarians rely on every day. And 99.7 per cent of that power is free of greenhouse gas and smog-causing emissions. A big source of OPG’s clean power is hydroelectric, but water at any of its 65 hydroelectric stations and 240 dams can become dangerous in seconds. Remember to stay clear and stay safe of hydro dams and stations. Visit www.opg.com/watersafety for more information about water safety.

With more than 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 725 member clubs, the OFAH is the largest nonprofit, fish and wildlife conservation-based organization in Ontario. For more information, visit www.ofah.org or follow us on Twitter (@ofah) and on Facebook (ofah.org/facebook).
