Winner of regional 2007 Ontario Trillium Foundation Great Grants environment sector award

On November 27th, 2007 the Community Stream Steward Program was honoured by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for its significant contribution in helping to build healthy and vibrant communities within the environment sector.

In 2003, OTF granted the Ontario Wildlife Foundation, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Durham Land Stewardship Council and Victoria Land and Water Stewardship Council $225,000 over three years to implement the Community Stream Steward Program. The initial and continued funding support from the OTF has allowed the Program to complete over 180 stream restoration, protection and enhancement projects, engage over 900 volunteers, leverage an additional $418,000 in funding and $228,000 of in-kind support and to naturalize, restore and enhance over 7 km (891 km2) of coldwater stream and river shoreline.

The Community Stream Steward Program was recognized for its outstanding achievements by being presented the regional Great Grants award for the environment sector in the Durham, Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge region.
