WOW! Women taking it outdoors this weekend
15th Annual Women’s Outdoor Weekend set for September 11-13

Eighty women are about to descend on Minden to try their hand at archery, fly tying, fishing, target shooting and survival skills—and that’s just a sampling of what is in store for them. The 15th annual Women’s Outdoor Weekend (W.O.W.), hosted by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) features an agenda packed full of outdoor activities, and only women are allowed.

As its name implies, W.O.W. is designed to provide women with the opportunity to learn about hunting, fishing and other outdoor pursuits in a fun, friendly, and relaxed environment. Research has shown that many people are interested in trying outdoor activities, but don’t know how to get started. The W.O.W. event breaks down a lot of the common barriers that limit women’s participation.

"The O.F.A.H. W.O.W. event brings women together from across the province to share their outdoor skills and experiences with each other. It is great to see the more practiced women offering assistance and encouragement to those who are just getting started," says Alesha Caldwell, O.F.A.H. W.O.W. Events Representative. "W.O.W. is equal parts fun and instruction, so that participants actually learn how to handle a fishing rod, shotgun, and crossbow from experts, get to practice under supervision and even, if they like, engage in some friendly competition."

This year’s highlights include a fishing tournament, clay target shooting, a hunting dog retrieval demonstration, and the always-anticipated Saturday night pig roast.

The O.F.A.H. is the leading nonprofit fishing, hunting and conservation organization in Ontario, with 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters and 660 member clubs. The Federation hosts W.O.W. with the support of Stoeger Canada, Winchester Ammunition, WILSON’S Fly Shop, Bass Pro Shops, ThermaCELL, Pioneer Petroleums, Lee Valley Tools, Goodlife Fitness, Fish Crisp, Signed Sealed Delivered and Chapstick.
