Annual Campout Weekend
August 11-12, 2007
In August 11-12, 2007, our annual campout weekend was held at the Barrie and District Anglers and Hunters property. As usual, the Barrie club extended their hospitality to all who participated.
The 1st Annual Zone Black Powder Shoot was held on Saturday, August 11, 2007. Although the turnout was small, it was a good beginning and we hope the start of something that will grow in 2008.
A wonderful Beef B B Q and corn roast was enjoyed by all both on the Saturday night and for lunch on Sunday as part of the Zone H Quarterly Meeting.
Our guest speakers at our August meeting were M.N.R. CO Dave Herris who related his concerns over the number of hunters being charged with convictions under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act primarily during the fall deer hunt.
A second speaker was Tara Borwick, who is the Stream Stewardship Co-ordinator for the O.F.A.H. She gave an informative presentation on a number of stream enhancement projects currently underway in the Peterborough area. She had “before and after pictures to illustrate the dramatic improvement in streams.
A historic first occurred at this meeting. For the very first time, an O.F.A.H.Zone H Life Membership was awarded to Blake Smith of Owen Sound. Blake is a retired C O who has worked tirelessly for the Zone and Anglers and Hunters in particular.
The zone members approved $3250 to fund conservation projects.
