Petition to support Bill 156
Private members bill to remove cormorant protection

For years, the O.F.A.H. has been pressing the provincial government to extend its efforts to control double-crested cormorants and include culling as one of the means of reducing the population of this predatory bird.

Science has shown that cormorants have decimated fish stocks is many parts of the province. They also disrupt nesting areas for other species and foul the water.

The private members bill, Bill 156, recently introduced by Ernie Parsons, M.P.P., Prince Edward-Hastings, will remove the protection that cormorants currently enjoy, treat these birds the same as common crows and grackles and allow for culling of the birds in addition to other population control methods currently being used.

We urge you to download a copy of the petition, have it filled out by as many people as possible, and send completed petitions to Mike Brown, M.P.P. Algoma-Manitoulin, whose address is at the bottom of the petition. He will arrange for presentation of the petitions in the Legislature.

The more petitions he receives, the greater the pressure to pass the bill. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
