Dear Member:

As you know, earlier this year the federal government began to honour its promises to the firearms community by introducing Bill C-21 which, if passed, will scrap the notorious long gun registry that we have all fought against for years. We anticipate that Bill C-21 will be brought forward for Second reading sometime this fall.

However, because the government only holds a minority of the seats in Parliament, they will require the assistance of the opposition parties to pass the legislation.

All of us have worked too long and too hard to stop now. It is critical that we assist the government by writing, calling or meeting with our local Member of Parliament, no matter what party they represent, and ask them to support C-21. A number of Liberal and NDP members in Ontario have already indicated that they will support the bill, but the vote is expected to be extremely close, particularly since anti-gun groups have already been lobbying the Members of Parliament to reject the bill.

Your help is needed now. If your local M.P. is a member of any opposition party, get in touch with them as soon as possible. If you decide to do this in writing, please feel free to use the letter posted on the O.F.A.H. website to do so. All you have to do is download a copy of the letter, sign it and send it in by mail or by fax. If your local M.P. is a government member, a quick call or note indicating your support of the government's position would also be a good idea.

For anyone unsure of who their M.P. is, the O.F.A.H. website also contains a link to the Members of Parliament. Simply click on the link, look for your riding name and the name and address of the M.P. that represents you.

Find your Member of Parliament using your Postal Code

Every vote we get is one vote closer to finally ridding ourselves of the failed long gun registry, which has unfairly targeted legal, law-abiding firearms owners like you, at a cost of well over $1 billion, while the real culprits, those who use firearms to commit crimes, go untracked.

Please act now and thank you for your assistance.

Yours in Conservation,

Greg Farrant
