Wildlife Management |
On behalf of our members, the OFAH works to ensure that decisions made at all levels of government help protect and conserve our wildlife resources, while providing enjoyment and sustainable benefits for all. Hunting is an important wildlife management tool used to reduce human/wildlife conflicts.
Examples of OFAH involvement in wildlife management include:
- Set OFAH policy through OFAH Advisory Committees (eg. Big Game, Sporting Dogs/Small Game, Wetlands/Migratory Bird, etc.)
- Provide OFAH input on wildlife policy, legislation and regulation proposal and decisions (i.e. EBR)
- Provide representation on provincial advisory committees
- Club participation and leadership on wildlife habitat improvement projects
- Fund research studies
- Fund student research grants
Species-specific management issues:
- Woodland Caribou Management
- Moose, White-tailed Deer, Eastern Elk and Black Bear Management
- Predator Management (e.g. wolf, coyote)
- Wild Turkey
- Waterfowl
- Upland Game
