New anglers welcome to try fishing in Barrie
OFAH Travelling TackleShare is coming to Heritage Park Shoreline this weekend!

Aspiring anglers who would like to fish but are not sure how to get started or don't have the gear, can head to the Heritage Park Shoreline in Barrie this weekend. The OFAH Travelling TackleShare program will be on hand Sunday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will have everything aspiring anglers need to drop a line, including rods, reels, tackle, bait and basic instructions.

Travelling TackleShare is an initiative of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) and is generously sponsored by Ontario Power Generation (OPG). There is no cost to participate.

"We all have fond memories of catching our first fish," said Angelo Lombardo, OFAH Executive Director. "Through the Travelling TackleShare program, we are making that experience possible for those who don't have the gear, but want to give fishing a try. Hopefully, their TackleShare experience will spark a lifelong interest in fishing and a real appreciation for our natural resources."

The OFAH runs two lending programs; TackleShare, which loans gear from over 140 loaner sites across Ontario; and Travelling TackleShare, which brings fishing gear to a variety of events in different locations during the summer. Both programs are designed to help youth experience the fun and excitement of fishing. In addition to lending out gear, the Travelling TackleShare crew will be onsite providing educational instruction on fishing and water safety.

"TackleShare is a great way for families to enjoy Ontario's lakes and rivers," says Frank Chiarotto, OPG's Senior Vice President Hydro-Thermal Operations. "It's also a good opportunity to learn the basics of water safety by reminding folks to stay clear of dangerous water around dams and waterways. Water levels can change in seconds, so please be sure to "Stay clear, stay safe."

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 675 member clubs, the OFAH is the largest nonprofit fish and wildlife conservation-based organization in Ontario.
