Canadian Wild Turkey Federation starts new chapter

The Canadian Wild Turkey Federation (CWTF) has started a new chapter in Kemptville, making five active Ontario chapters.

The Canadian Wild Turkey Federation (CWTF) has started a new chapter in Kemptville.

Officially formed on February 5th after nearly 10 years of talks, the Kemptville Long Beards' mission is not only to improve turkey populations, but boost all facets of outdoor conservation and education.

"Our primary goals and mandate for this new chapter is to involve our youth in hunting and conservation within the community while teaching them through hands-on involvement about our treasured hunting heritage," President Keith Fowler said.

The CWTF currently has five active Ontario chapters, all which aim to conserve, enhance, and protect.

"The importance of our Kemptville chapter is to ensure the wild turkey population is sustainable, especially with the avian flu threat,” Fowler added. “Less provincial government funding means on-the-ground grassroots work is needed more than ever, so winter bird counts and monitoring hatch rates will be important.

Acting as the public face and spokesperson for CWTF, I'm excited to engage with members, landowners, partner groups, government agencies and the hunting and conservation community to expand the federation's mission. It goes without saying how elated I am to be working with a great bunch of volunteers.”
