Kids and Cops Fishing Days returning

The Kids and Cops Fishing Days brings together local organizers and law enforcement officers to host community-based fishing events.

Kids and Cops Fishing Days will continue in 2026 thanks to a $20,000 donation from Canadian Tire, according to the Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation (CNSF), which has organized the program for more than two decades.

In that time, more than half a million children have benefited from Kids and Cops fishing events, with brings together local organizers and law enforcement officers to host community-based fishing events.

“When children pick up a fishing rod at a Kids and Cops event, they learn patience, teamwork, and build confidence,” CNSF Managing Director Mike Melnik stated. “They also learn to appreciate and respect the environment. With Canadian Tire’s generous donation, we can continue offering these incredible experiences for kids, free of charge.”

Summer swag and events

Although a few ice fishing events have already taken place, the 2026 program kicks into high gear this spring with most events taking place in June and July. Each event offers take-home items including t-shirts, bags, sunglasses, as well as grand prizes of rods and reels.

In Peterborough, the event sees Peterborough Police Service fishing with children from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peterborough and camp kids at the Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters fish pond.

The (CNSF) and its partner organization, the Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association, are non-profit organizations comprised of manufacturers, retailers, distributors, sales agencies, and outdoor media. Together they are dedicated to promoting and protecting recreational fishing in Canada. Their other programs include National Fishing Week, Catch Fishing, and Keep Canada Fishing.
