OOD contributors win OCNAs

Two OOD writers recently won prestigious Ontario Community Newspaper Association (OCNA) Awards for their work in 2025.

A pair of Ontario Out of Doors writers recently won prestigious Ontario Community Newspaper Association (OCNA) Better Newspaper Competition (BNC) Awards for their work in 2025.

OOD Contributor Jeff Helsdon won the Stephen Shaw Award for Reporter of the Year for his work with the Tillsonburg Post, while OOD Assistant Editor Steve Galea won Humour Columnist of the Year for his weekly piece in the Haliburton County Echo.

Both are also members of the Professional Outdoor Media Association of Canada (POMAC). Helsdon is editor of the free, bi-weekly Post, which launched in September 2024. Galea, who has won more than 30 OCNA awards, has written My Outdoors continuously for OOD since 1996.
