OFAH Position on Proposed Alto Highspeed Rail
OFAH Voices Opposition to Alto Highspeed Rail
After thorough review of the project and detailed discussions with the project’s proponent, the OFAH cannot support the project due to its widespread negative impacts on land use, connectivity, fish and wildlife habitat, and everything anglers and hunters care about.
The proposed Alto High-Speed Rail (HSR) project will result in unprecedented landscape change across southern and central Ontario. While electrified high-speed rail offers long-term transportation and climate benefits, the project’s current at-grade, fully fenced design presents unacceptable risks to ecological connectivity, hydrology, agriculture, recreation and more.
