Southwestern Ontario’s Larry Moore lands the biggest catch of his life
PETERBOROUGH – A southwestern Ontario man, Larry Moore, 34, is celebrating the biggest catch of his life – the winning ticket number and a winning playing card in the OFAH Catch the Ace Jackpot.
The big win has netted Moore a grand total of $394,717.
“This is the story that the people of Ontario need to hear right now,” said Robert Pye, the Manager of Business Development and Corporate Messaging for the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH).
Twenty-four weeks ago, the OFAH introduced its new online progressive lottery that rapidly went from a week one Jackpot of $2,823 to nearly $400,000. Since the outset, the OFAH has been awarding weekly cash prizes, most recently to the tune of $21,000.
But until yesterday, the Ace of Spades – the card that hooks the jackpot — had not been reeled in. The lucky Ace of Spades angler, Mr. Moore, was driving tow truck when the OFAH Catch the Ace campaign started. However, with fewer commuters and roadside rescues during the second wave, Mr. Moore went into the holidays without a job. The father of an 18-month-old, said 2021 was already looking up when he got a new job to start the new year.
“We finally get our house,” is the first thing Larry shouted when the OFAH called him yesterday to announce he was the grand OFAH Catch the Ace champion. He said the first order of his prize-winning business is to pay off his wife’s student loan debt and then go house shopping.
“The success of OFAH Catch the Ace speaks to the importance of fishing, hunting and conservation – core values for millions of Ontario residents who, especially throughout the pandemic, turn to the outdoors for personal expression and escape,” said Pye. “The dollars raised through OFAH membership and fundraising help create many of the outdoor opportunities that Ontario residents have rediscovered, or in fact, experienced for the first time in the past ten months.”
“Symbolically, distancing brought us closer – closer in our appreciation for nature-based experiences and closer in our desire to support the conservation volunteers that take care of the outdoors. That outdoors enthusiasm was shared by everyone who played OFAH Catch the Ace,” explained Pye.

The OFAH is a charitable conservation organization that, since 1928, has stood proudly behind Canada’s outdoor traditions and an “I AM Conservation” affirmation that gives back to the environment.
