Seeking bird flu study participants

Researchers seek participants for a bird flu study exploring possible exposure among people who work with or interact with animals in Ontario.

Researchers are looking for individuals to participate in a bird flu study that explores avian influenza exposure among people who work with or interact with animals in Ontario.

The Sunnybrook Research Institute, in partnership with the University of Toronto, is conducting a province-wide study to investigate the risk of avian influenza virus exposure. “We are actively recruiting interested participants until December 2025. Anyone who is over 18 years of age and regularly interacts, works with, or handles wildlife animals in the province of Ontario is eligible. Participation involves completing a brief online questionnaire and providing a blood sample (collected at your closest Life Labs),” Study Coordinator Mackenzie Scott said.

The bird flu study hopes to collect data from 300 participants, including farm workers, wildlife custodians/rehabilitators, banders, hunters, and field researchers.

If you qualify and are interested, contact aionehealthstudy.dlsph@sunnybrook.ca for more details.
