Ontario is investing $180,000 to protect water quality and strengthen creeks and rivers on Manitoulin Island.

Ontario is investing $180,000 to protect water quality and strengthen creeks and rivers on Manitoulin Island. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks on September 9.

The projects will be led by the Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association (MSIA) with the goal of improving local water quality, promoting healthy fisheries and increasing biodiversity, while contributing to healthier communities and stronger local economies.

The MSIA is receiving $100,000 to rehabilitate Blue Jay Creek through the Great Lakes Program. It received an additional $80,000 through the Ontario Community Environment Fund for community-based environmental activities.
