We are happy to introduce our new OFAH | Fitzsimons Financial Group Inc. Conservation Intern, Emily Hammond, who joined the OFAH team in January 2026.
This internship, made possible through the generous support of Fitzsimons Financial Group, gives emerging conservation professionals an opportunity to dive into real, hands-on conservation work alongside our fish and wildlife professionals.
Hammond, who comes to us with an undergraduate degree in zoology, recently obtained her Master of Science in Conservation Biology. She has experience with wildlife monitoring, habitat management, and public engagement. Her goal is building her knowledge and experience with aquatic species and ecosystems.
“Since starting my internship, I’ve already learned so much about Atlantic salmon and the work being done to bring sustainable populations back to Lake Ontario,” Hammond said. “I’m really excited to get involved in other conservation projects too, such as the Invading Species Awareness Program, and learn more about Ontario’s aquatic species.”
Over the next several months, Hammond will be helping with everything from policy work and program support to field activities like invasive species monitoring and fish stocking. She’ll also be jumping into education and public engagement — meeting partners, working with volunteers, and helping connect more people to conservation in Ontario.
