Carp barriers costly

The Brandon Road Interbasin Project is progressing with enhanced measures to keep invasive carp out of the Great Lakes.

Once-stalled measures to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes are progressing.

Plans to build enhanced measures at the Brandon Road lock, such as acoustic, bubble, and enhanced electric barriers, were put on hold after Illinois delayed the purchase of 50 acres of land for the project. Things changed, however, when the state purchased the land in May and the US federal government announced funding for the project.
