Q: This past spring a new turkey season was opened in WMU 36, which overlapped with the spring bear hunt. The regulations for bear state hunter orange must be worn while hunting from the ground. But there is no requirement for hunter orange while hunting wild turkey. It was advised on the turkey course that hunter orange should not be worn as turkeys can see colour. Can I get clarification regarding hunter orange in WMUs where the two seasons overlap? Chris Gardner, Sault Ste. Marie A: During the “spring” bear hunt, the only people who are required to wear hunter orange are bear hunters who are not in a tree stand. Wild turkey hunters are not required to wear hunter orange while hunting turkey during the bear season, unless they are hunting bear at the same time and are not in a tree stand.
