Some fishing and hunting groups have learned that their Facebook pages are no longer being recommended to users after possible policy changes by the social media platform reportedly took effect January 1.

Many owners of pages with outdoors content, including those for firearms groups, social media influencers, and taxidermists, were advised their page recommendations were suspended because “Our technology detected your Page is not following our Recommendations Guidelines.” Facebook and its parent company, Meta, have not commented publicly on the changes.

Ontario Out of Doors (OOD) and Angler & Hunter Television, both owned by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH), have recently experienced suspensions. The freeze for OOD was reversed Jan. 7 after being contested. Page admins can contest freezes through the Facebook app under the page recommendation dashboard.

“It’s challenging enough to find your audience while navigating algorithm updates and media bans, to say nothing of competing with boosted posts and reels, harrowing global concerns, and the brain-rot content readily available and often unasked for on every feed,” OOD Digital Editor Meghan Sutherland stated.
