Ontario Women Anglers (OWA), a group dedicated to bringing women into the sport of fishing, is once again encouraging members and non-members to participate in their extensive line-up of angling events in 2026.
The group’s next event, the third annual Intro to Fishing Workshop for Women will be held at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show (TSS) on March 21, 2026. Women 18 years and older, including non-members, can join with the price of admission to the TSS, but registration is required. There are a limited number of spaces.
The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served at 8:30 followed by several discussions and hands-on demonstrations. Afterwards, if attendees wish, a mentor will walk with them around the show, to showcase fishing gear and answer questions about the sport. The event features a free draw, female instructors, and more than 20 different talking points and lessons.
OWA Founder Yvonne Brown said she and TSS Show Manager Mike Blakoe discussed how important it is that the show offers even more for women. This tailored workshop is meant to appeal to women, but it's also meant to encourage them to attend a show they might otherwise not think twice about.
Those unable to attend the workshop on Saturday, are invited to visit the OWA booth (F312) at the TSS from Thursday to Sunday.
The OWA has been making space for women in the world of fishing since 2012 with their first ever Intro to Fishing for Women Workshop. It has since evolved into a membership-based organization that offers events and resources for all experience levels from beginner to tournament anglers.
The group will be hosting more than a dozen other events in 2026. Most are for members. But there are also a handful are membership-free events, such as Intro to Ice Fishing, historically held in February on Elbow Lake, and OFAH’s Intro to Fishing event, to be held this year on July 4th.

Brown encourages interested women to join the OWA.
“It is easy and affordable,” she said, pointing out that members are offered discounted rates to events, can participate in their Master Angler’s Program, and have access to countless angling resources.
