MNRF Wrapping up the 2021 moose tag allocation process

Here’s what you need to know.
Get results for the second chance allocation
If you didn’t claim a tag during the primary allocation and applied to the second chance allocation, the results for the second chance allocation will be available August 1. You can check your results through your online account or by calling the automated phone line at 1-800-288-1155.
Claim your moose tag
We recommend that hunters claim tags awarded in the second chance allocation close to the time of their planned hunt, when they’re confident of their hunting plans. Claimed tags are non-refundable. Learn more at ontario.ca/moosetagprocess.
Tags awarded in the second chance allocation may be claimed by purchasing a moose licence and your tag between August 1 and the end of the relevant season. You cannot hunt on a tag you have been awarded until it’s claimed and printed. If you choose not to claim your tag, you will keep your points and gain a point the following year.
You can claim your tag by purchasing a moose licence and your tag:
Please note that you cannot claim your tag in the second chance allocation over the automated phone line.
In the second chance allocation, if you choose to claim a tag you’ve been awarded from your first choice, your points will reset to zero the following year. The second and third choice tags are awarded randomly. If you choose to claim a tag you’ve been awarded from your second or third choice in this stage, you will keep your points and you will gain a point the following year.
Print your moose tag
Once tags are available for printing beginning August 17 you can print a tag you claimed from the primary or second chance allocation:
We recommend that hunters print their tags close to the time of their planned hunt to prevent tags from getting lost or damaged.
Can I still hunt if I didn’t get a tag?
Ontario residents that don’t have their own tag can still party hunt with another tag holder by purchasing a moose licence. You can purchase your moose licence online at huntandfishontario.com or in person at a licence issuer or participating ServiceOntario location. You can obtain a tag as part of a hunting package from a tourist outfitter. This approach will not impact your moose points. Learn about hunting moose with a tourist outfitter.
If you are a non-resident you can only hunt moose in Ontario by purchasing a moose hunt from a tourist outfitter or by party hunting during an open non-resident season with a resident tag holder that is an immediate relative.
