Rob Hare has been named the most recent recipient of the prestigious OFAH/Jack O’Dette Conservation Leadership Award, which is given each year to an OFAH director in recognition of their hard work and dedication in the name of conservation.

The award is named in Honour of Jack O’Dette, a former OFAH president and board member, and a recipient of the Order of Canada for his conservation efforts.

Hare, who lives in Keswick with his wife Dorothy and their two German Shorthair Pointers, first became actively involved with the Federation in 1985 when the Township of Georgina sought to ban all hunting within the municipality.

Now he’s serving his third term as OFAH president after joining the Board of Directors back in 1994. Over the years he has served in all capacities at the Zone level, including alternate director, secretary/treasurer, first vice chair and chair, while also participating on a number of OFAH advisory committees such as the Big Game Advisory Committee, the Firearms, Recreational Shooting and Hunter Education Advisory Committee and the Fisheries Advisory Committee, the last of which he has served as chair of.

“I have long believed in the work the Federation has done across the province when it comes to conservation and advocacy and it has been an honour to be a part of it for the last 35 years,” explains Hare.

Beyond that, as a Federation representative Hare has also held positions on many provincial and local committees, including Lake Simcoe Coordinating Committee, York Region Forest Advisory Team, York Simcoe Environment Committee, the Lake Simcoe Community Fisheries Advisory Community, as well as the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s board of directors.
