Bill 5 Poses a Threat to Ontario’s Biodiversity
OFAH Calls on Government to Rescind and Rethink Multiple Aspects of Bill 5
OFAH Foundation has expressed significant concern about several aspects of provincial Bill 5, including changes to the Mining Act, the establishment of Special Economic Zones, and the elimination of the Endangered Species Act. Taken together, these changes pose a serious threat to fish and wildlife and the habitats that support them.
Ontario does not need to sacrifice environmental protections to achieve economic development. Sustainable growth is within our capabilities and is best supported through transparent, inclusive, and evidence-based decision-making, not through unchecked discretionary authority. Degree that is consistent with the protection of Ontario’s economy, society, and environment.
