OFAH Opposition to Wildlife Feeding Bylaw
OFAH Voices Opposition to Essa Township Wildlife Feeding Bylaw
Essa Township recently passed a wildlife feeding bylaw intended to deal with rat problems in urban areas. Unfortunately, the wording of the bylaw would have prohibited the use of bait for the purposes of hunting, including on private land. We immediately contacted the mayor and council to voice our opposition.
We are deeply concerned that the by-law’s current broad language prohibits the traditional practice of baiting for the purposes of regulated hunting, including on private land. We believe that the regulation of hunting should remain the purview of the province and not individual municipalities.
