OFAH Calls on Government to Waive Hunting Licence Fees for Veterans and Active Service Members
The OFAH has written to Ontario Premier Doug Ford in support of a proposal to provide complimentary provincial hunting licences to active Canadian Armed Forces members and veterans. Ontario already provides free recreational fishing to Ontario-resident veterans and active CAF members. OFAH’s letter supports extending this recognition to hunting while keeping all existing hunting, safety, firearms, tagging and reporting requirements in place.
For many transitioning veterans, outdoor pursuits like hunting and fishing serve as vital therapeutic outlets for mental health, camaraderie, and re-connecting with civilian life. Ontario has already established a precedent in recognizing military service by allowing active CAF members and veterans to fish in the province as deemed licence holders without purchasing an Ontario fishing licence. Waiving provincial hunting licence fees is a natural evolution of Ontario’s existing commitment to our military community.
