Conservation
Conservation is the cornerstone of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. Wise, science-based management of Ontario's fish and wildlife and the lands and waters they inhabit is the focus of everything we do.
On behalf of our members and in partnership with our zones, clubs, members, governments and other contributors we lead conservation initiatives that restore, maintain and enhance our precious natural resources.
Examples of OFAH conservation efforts include:
- Providing expert input to proposed policy, legislation and regulations
- Providing representation on various committees across the province and beyond
- Fundraising initiatives that support conservation projects at head office, zone and club level
- Funding graduate student research grants
Conservation Programs:
- Invading Species Awareness Program
- Restoration of elk to Ontario
- Bring Back the Salmon (Lake Ontario Atlantic Salmon restoration program)
- Community Stream Steward Program
- Ontario Invasive Plant Council
Historic Conservation Achievements:
- First studies of Ontario game fish and game wildlife (1931, 1933)
- Contributed to restoration of wood duck, trumpeter swan
- Wild turkey restoration
- Improved deer, moose and black bear management
