Wild Turkey Seminars coming to Northern Ontario

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, (O.F.A.H.) announces that its wildly successful Wild Turkey Seminars are coming to Espanola, Timmins and Thunder Bay,

The first is March 2, 2003 in Thunder Bay at the Victoria Inn, followed by March 8, 2003 at the Polish Hall in Timmins and concludes with a seminar at the Espanola Sports Complex in Espanola on March 22, 2003.

Since the introduction of these seminars 17 years ago, over 32,000 hunters across the province have successfully completed the one-day course. Successful completion of the Wild Turkey Seminar and a safety and skill examination is mandatory for anyone wishing to hunt wild turkeys in Ontario for the first time. The seminars are open to non-hunters, family and friends as well. Cost of the seminar is $23 per person if pre-registered, or $28 at the door if space is still available.

The seminars provide information on the natural history of wild turkeys in Ontario, hunting safety and regulations, hunting techniques, equipment and calling. All seminars are taught by experience hunters. Everyone who passes the course and exam receives the certificate needed to purchase a turkey hunting licence.

Wild turkeys are native to Ontario but, due to habitat loss and unregulated market hunting, the were extinct in the province by the early 1900
