Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Location: Peterborough, ON
Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour + 4% vacation pay
Number of Positions: 1

Applicants must be youth between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period, as per the requirements of the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs Program.

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is the oldest and largest non-profit, non-government fish and wildlife conservation organization in Canada. The OFAH represents more than 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all Day Camp staff training and daily/weekly program staff meetings;
  • Develop and deliver conservation-based camp programming, age appropriate for 6 to 12 year olds;
  • Supervise and instruct campers on the Excalibur Archery Range, Stoeger Airgun Range, and Shimano Fish Pond (training will be provided), and assist with the maintenance of pond and range equipment as required;
  • Ensure camper safety and wellbeing at all times;
  • Ensure all camp program supplies and resources are kept clean and organized; and
  • Assist in the setup, and cleanup of camp activities in a variety of outdoor and indoor settings.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year college or university education in conservation education, outdoor recreation, environment science, early child education or equivalent work-related experience in the relevant fields;
  • Minimum of one year of experience in youth programming would be an asset;
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of employment period;
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment; and
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, public relations, public speaking, interpersonal and team work skills, project management, organizational and multi-tasking skills, time management, problem solving, and leadership.
  • Ability to be on feet for sustained periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions (with breaks)– specifically rain and hot days

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a valid fishing license, firearms license, emergency first aid with Level A and AED certification (as a minimum), and valid OFAH Membership (required at time of hire). OFAH employees are required to complete a criminal record check every three years.
  • Possession of an Outdoors Card with accredited hunter would be an asset.
